CHIEF OF NAVY ROUNDTABLE TALKS (CNRT ‘17) THE BEST APPROACH FOR NAVAL PROCUREMENT

Chief of Navy Roundtable Talks @ Resort World Langkawi
1. The Royal Malaysian Navy held its flagship Chief of Navy Roundtable Talks (CNRT) today in conjunction with the Langkawi International Maritime & Aerospace 2017 (LIMA ’17) at Resorts World Langkawi. The exclusive forum for Navy Chiefs acts as a platform for information and knowledge sharing on issues related to maritime security and naval capabilities. The Minister of Defence Malaysia YB Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein was the keynote speaker at this year’s event, themed “Naval Capability-Based Acquisition Reform”. 

2. This year’s CNRT saw a record attendance by 12 Naval Chiefs and 25 representatives, the biggest turnout in the 14 editions of LIMA. Also present were delegates from government agencies, academicians and defence industry players. 

3. The RMN Chief of Navy, Admiral Tan Sri Ahmad Kamarulzaman bin Hj Ahmad Badaruddin, in his speech said that this edition of CNRT looks at, among others, the innovative and out-of-the-box approach in RMN asset procurement process involving prudent financial management for a high return of investment. 

4. The sharing session had five speakers including Tan Sri Ahmad Kamarulzaman, who spoke about the RMN’s Fleet Transformation Programme 15-to-5. Other speakers were Chief of the Royal Australian Navy - Vice Admiral Tim Barrett, Indian Navy’s Vice Chief of Naval Staff - Vice Admiral Karambir Singh, Commander of United States Navy’s 7th Fleet - Vice Admiral Joseph P. Aucoin and Australia Minister for Defence Industries – Honourable Martin Hamilton Smith.
